Formula SAE

Gator Motorsports builds two race vehicles for international competition. Gator Motorsports Formula competition entry is an 8 foot representation of a F1 race car. Built around a Honda CBR 600RR power plant, over 90% of the car is student designed and manufactured. With three top ten finishes in a row, UFSAE has won numerous awards and holds a high tradition of excellence.

The team is made up entirely of students. While most members are engineers, the team also includes majors such as business, criminology, public relations, advertising, sociology, and architecture. Getting involved is as simple as stopping by the shop, located in building MAE-C on Gale Lemerand Drive.

We would like to specially thank Michael Braddock, Design and Manufacturing Lab Director. Professor Braddock has given invaluable advice, technical instruction, and unwavering support to our team for the past four years. He has allowed us the use of the Design and Manufacturing machine shop and the use of his UF Purchase Card. He has stood as our primary source of University faculty support and has offered his expertise advice on both Formula and Mini Baja projects. Mike, without your support, our team would not be as successful as we have been and continue to be. Thank you for support, advice, and motivation.

History of the Formula SAE
Formula SAE got its start in the 1970's through Mini-Baja. The Mini-Baja competitions had been going on for almost a decade until SAE had decided to hold a road course event in 1979 called the Mini-Indy. Six schools came to compete. The rules where short... only four pages long. Today the Formula SAE rules are over 100 pages in length and the competition has grown to nearly 200 international teams. The competition was first held in Texas at the University of Houston. Since then, Formula SAE has branched off into 8 major competitions held on four different continents.
