Wednesday, November 17, 2010: Local Gainesville students from ages seven to seventeen came by the shop to participate in the World in Motion outreach progam. The students toured the Gator Motorsports shop and learned how to make simple cars using gears and motors. They later put their knowledge to the test and raced their cars in a track in the Shop. Friday, October 29, 2010: Dr. Edward Kasprzak from Milliken Research Associates, Inc. graciously visited the University of Florida and gave a lecture on automotive tire dynamics and testing methods. Thursday, September 16, 2010: New Student Shop Day was a great opportunity for students to come by and get a hands-on feel for what we do in the Shop. The students were assembled into groups and took turns learning how to use the lathes, how we design 3D CAD models in Solidworks, and many other core-SAE skills. Sunday, May 16 2010: The Gator Motorsports team spent May 12- May 15th competing in Formula SAE Michigan. The competition was comprised of over 120 international teams. Car 84 and the team made it to design semi-finals, and tied for 4th with an overall competition placement of 43rd. See pictures of the team at competition here. |

Friday April 16, 2010: Students from Bolles Middle School in Jacksonville came to tour the Gator Motorsports shop and take part in an engineering competition of their own. The students worked with World in Motion Vehicle kits to build electric toy cars to race across the shop. Check out these pictures and the news post on the Bolles website. |
Thursday April 15, 2010: Gator Motorsports won runner up for IDEAL's Student Organization of the year award out of over 800 student organizations at UF. Gator Motorsports also received BEC's best technical society and best website for the third year in a row.

Saturday, March 27 2010: Gator Motorsports led the regional SECME Mousetrap Car event on Saturday for over 250 local elementary through high school students. GMS members were on the other side of the competition this time, judging the students’ technical drawings and design reports, interviewing them, and competing the cars. Saturday, Feb 21 2009: Gator Motorsports, the UF Society of Automotive Engineers, had the honor of representing the College of Engineering at the Alumni Association’s Back to College weekend. Team members gave a presentation on the formula and baja programs and the international competitions we attend to the 119 UF alumni. The “Championship teams, Championship Solutions” presentation gave us the opportunity share our program one on one with alumni.

The Society of Automotive Engineers celebrated national engineering week by participating in the 2009 E-week Engineering Fair. Members gave up their Tuesday and Wednesday to tabling with the Baja car and gives tours of the shop to local elementary and middle school students.

Thursday, Feb 12 2009: Gator Motorsports would like to give a huge thanks to Solidworks for giving us the opportunity of attending Solidworks World. The Gator Motorsports team, and 4300 other professionals from around the world, attended this year’s annual Solidworks user’s conference in Orlando, Florida. The weekend was a great honor for our society and a great opportunity to learn, network and showcase how we use Solidworks.

Monday, June 16, 2008: The Gator Motorsports Baja team is back from Montreal with great news! This year's team placed 3rd overall out of 120 teams worldwide. Highlights from their event include 2nd in acceleration, 4th in design finals, vehicle cost, and endurance, and 5th in suspension & traction. Their top 10 completion makes Gator Motorsports the only program to have top-ranked Formula and Baja teams two years running.

Monday, May 19, 2008: The Gator Motorsports team is back from Michigan with great news! The car placed 9th internationally this year, making us the only team to have a top-ten finish three years running. Highlites include 4th in Presentation, Design Semi-Finals, and runner-up for the Altair Engineering Excellence Award.

Monday, October 1, 2007: Formula Captain Dan Matthews recently visited Faro Technologies to make 3D scans of parts that will go on the 2008 car. Employees at Faro were extremely helpful and spent the entire day teaching Dan to use the equipment. Thanks to all the people at Faro who made this possible!

July 20, 2007: Today was Gator Motorsports'
annual sponsor drive day held at the Oaks Mall
parking lot. Each year, companies and individuals
that sponsor the team with parts, material,
or financial aid are offered a chance to drive
the Formula SAE car and see exactly what their
sponsorship is going. After driving, a tour
of the shop is given to the sponsors. This year's
drive was a lot of fun for everyone.

Thursday July 19, 2007: The first meeting of the year was a success! The 2007 Summer Meeting took place tonight. Many new students attended and were shown highlights from last year's events and a look at plans for the coming year. Afterwards, a tour of the shop took place and new members were allowed to check out the cars and the technology that went into building them. To end the night representatives from Redbull stopped by and gave out free drinks to everyone present. Take a look at pictures from the meeting.

Monday July 16, 2007: Gator Motorsports attended IDEAL's Student Organization Fair at the Reitz Union colonnade. The fair showcases dozens of UF student groups and allows incoming freshmen to get a feel for what UF has to offer. Gator Motorsports displayed the cars and gave students a chance to ask questions about the car and our society. Overall, the Student Organization Fair was a great success!
